A UTV is a great addition to any camping trip. These little vehicles are great for speeding across bumpy terrain and traveling long distances with lots of gear. However, learning how to pack your UTV, and what to bring along with it, can be a bit challenging. Read on to find out how you can efficiently pack your UTV for your next camping trip!

Find a Way to Transport Your UTV

Before you start planning your camping trip—and all the things you’ll do with your UTV while you're there—you’ll need to have the right transportation. If your UTV is relatively small and your pickup truck is quite large, you might be able to load your UTV into the bed. However, this means your luggage will probably have to be squished into the cab, making for a cramped car ride. 

Most owners choose to transport their UTV with some kind of equipment, such as a cargo trailer or toy hauler. No matter how you choose to transport your UTV, we advise that you don’t tow it. Towing a UTV for long distances often results in it being damaged and needing repairs. 

Make sure to Pack Lightly

If you need to transport your UTV in your RV or truck you’ll want to pack lightly. Your travel vehicle will be hauling a lot of weight and it’s important that you check its weight capacity in your owner's manual. Once you know what your vehicle can handle you’ll also want to check the weight of your UTV (also found in the owner’s manual). This should tell you how much weight you have left for your luggage and passengers.

Don’t Forget to Bring Tools

While you’ll want to pack lightly for your trip, you’ll still need to bring all the essentials. For camping this will include emergency and first aid supplies, as well as clothing, food, and bug spray. However, when you’re camping with a UTV this list gets a little longer. You’ll want to include some emergency tools in case your UTV breaks down for any reason. It might also be wise to bring along a full gas can in case you run out of fuel while out on the trail. You’ll also need a few items to safely tie down your UTV before hauling it. This includes wheel chocks, straps or bungee cords, and some kind of anchor to attach your ties to.
