Driving a golf cart in the rain is a lot harder than people give it credit for! Unlike a car, golf carts have a very light tread to avoid damaging the sensitive green of the golf course. As a result, they’re much more prone to slipping, sliding, and hydroplaning in the rain. To avoid an accident and ensure the safety of both you, your passengers, and your vehicle, we strongly advise reading through our helpful rainy-day driving tips below.

Avoid Heavy Rain

When driving through the rain it’s extremely important that you drive slowly so as not to slip and slide in your golf cart, or splash water up into the sensitive underside of your vehicle. While these vehicles are equipped to handle small storms and light drizzles, heavy downpours can easily overwhelm golf carts. If you’re not careful you could short-circuit the important electrical equipment in your cart, and we advise storing your golf cart inside or under a tarp when it begins to rain cats and dogs.

Avoid Obstacles

Even small obstacles, such as hills or mud puddles, can become serious hazards in the rain. Climb a hill that’s too steep and it’s possible to lose control of your cart and flip over. Mud puddles and sand traps are also likely to result in spinning tires and a stuck vehicle, as golf cart tires rarely have tread strong enough to pull them out of loose terrain. If you often find yourself navigating in rainy conditions, you might consider investing in a few helpful accessories, such as all-terrain tires, or a windshield and wipers.
