Style

For many, the first aspect of a golf cart to customize is the appearance. The standard look might work for some, but there are plenty of ways to put your own spin on things. Stencils can put your name, initials, or favorite phrases on the vehicle, and decals and bumper stickers can add some flash. A “monarch front” is a frame that gives your cart a car-like silhouette and adds some storage space, and there are also ways to make your cart look like a roadster or limousine!

Power

The first thing you think of when you hear “golf cart” probably isn’t “power.” If you want your cart to be street-legal, or just faster in general, there are a few ways to give it the boost you need. Off the lot, most golf carts max out at 20 mph. Electric models can be modified for speeds up to 40 mph by overclocking batteries, adding secondary batteries, or replacing the original battery with something larger and more powerful. On a gas model, you can remove the standard speed-cap or just alter it, or you can add bigger gears or a bigger engine.

Remember that your golf cart is designed to hit the standard speeds, not the higher speeds you’re upgrading it for. That means handling and safety will go down as speeds increase, so account for that when braking and turning.

Accessories

For additional upgrades and custom flare, there are a number of other accessories and additions you can add to your cart, including:

  • LED head- and tail-lights for better visibility (required for street-legal carts, good for off-roading)
  • Stereo systems to add your own soundtrack
  • Fold-down seats at the back for extra seating without sacrificing storage
  • Larger tires for higher speeds and maneuverability
  • Seat belts (required for street-legal carts, good for general safety)
  • Windshields for protection from the elements and air-borne debris
  • A horn to alert pedestrians and other vehicles to your presence

We hope these tips help you turn your golf cart into something unique and truly yours! If you need help installing something, or you just want to know more, contact us at Richmond Equipment. We proudly serve the people of Houston and Rosenberg, Texas—let us serve you today!
